Becomes an Official Candidate against Thaddeus McCotter in Michigan’s 11th
The Trupiano campaign turned in 2,000 signatures to the Michigan Secretary of State on Friday to launch Tony Trupiano’s official run for U.S. Congress in Michigan’s 11th District. This is the maximum number of signatures allowed for congressional nominating petitions, and is twice the number required for official candidacy. Trupiano is not expected to have a Democratic opponent for the August 8th primary election.
Trupiano stated, “As citizens, we need a voice in Congress. Thaddeus McCotter has listened to special interests and President Bush – not us – the very people who elected him.
Washington needs to listen to the people of the 11th. That means talking about job creation, the energy crisis and other issue that affect not only our pocket books but our lives. I’m determined to win this race and bring accountability, honesty and integrity back to our government.”
Tony Trupiano, is a native of the 11th District, growing up in Oakland County portion of the 11th and currently residing in Dearborn Heights. Trupiano will run against Republican two-term incumbent Thaddeus McCotter. McCotter, who has closely aligned himself in Washington with President Bush and Tom Delay, will face continued criticism as the Administration’s popularity plummets to historic lows.
Trupiano’s platform is based on plans for bringing positive change to Congress, with an agenda including:
* Accountability for fraudulent congressional spending and limits on out-of-control lobbyist-congressional
relationships
* A Clear Outline for withdrawal from Iraq, setting benchmarks toward democracy, and encouraging international aid to sustain the well-being of the Iraqi people
* A Tougher and Smarter position on National Security, with a focus on our real enemies: Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda, who have been forgotten in exchange for the Bush Administration’s failed war in Iraq, but doubtlessly remain a threat to national security.
