McCotter Refuses to Take a Stand on Iraq War

McCotter Refuses to Take a Stand on Iraq War McCotter only one of 5 “present” votes June 16, 2006 Dearborn Heights, MI – On Friday, after lengthy debate on the War in Iraq in the House of Representatives, Republican Congressman Thaddeus McCotter was one of only 5 Congressional members to vote “present” instead of voting yes or no on supporting our troops. The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Friday to keep armed forces in Iraq without any timetable for their removal. Even after stating “We owe Americans an account of our

progress” and that “we ask the best of our troops, their families and ourselves” on the House floor McCotter refused to take a stand supporting our troops and our country. “As usual McCotter failed to show leadership when it came to supporting the troops or defining a withdrawal from Iraq. Thaddeus claims the language in the resolution wasn’t ‘strong enough’. At some point he better stop straddling the fence when it comes to our country’s security, our troops, and fighting terrorists,” stated Tony Trupiano, the Democratic candidate in the 11th Congressional District. McCotter has supported the war and President Bush with every vote he has cast until today. The U.S. House of Representatives voted on Friday (6/16/06) to keep armed forces in Iraq without any timetable for their removal. With a final vote of 256-153, the House approved a resolution that

states the Iraq war was part of the global fight against terrorism and a date for withdrawal is not in the country’s best interest, and says an "arbitrary date for the withdrawal or redeployment" of troops is not in the national interest. This vote came at the same time the Pentagon released a statement confirming that over 2,500 United States military members have died in the war.
