11th District challenger walks with workers, energizes supporters

Dearborn Heights, MI – Democratic candidate Tony Trupiano capped off his strongest week yet in his fight to win Michigan’s 11th Congressional District by showing solidarity with the state’s workers and union members, walking with them during Monday’s Labor Day Parade in Detroit.
“Are you ready for the revolution?” asked an upbeat Trupiano. He called a motivated crowd of union members and labor supporters to action to unseat Republicans, including his opponent, incumbent Thaddeus McCotter. “Sixty-four days from today, we will send them a message.”
Detroit’s Annual Labor Day Parade drew some 4,000 from throughout the state, stretching a mile back from the Woodward and Mack Avenue start point. Participants marched the mile and a half down Woodward to Jefferson Avenue on a beautiful late summer morning, past thousands of spectators and well-wishers.
Dignitaries in attendance included Gov. Jennifer Granholm, U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, U.S. Rep. John Conyers, Attorney General candidate Amos Williams, Secretary of State candidate Carmella Sabaugh, and 9th Congressional District candidate Nancy Skinner.
“I showed up here today to walk with you,” Trupiano, well-known as a “voice for labor” during his time as a nationally-syndicated talk-radio host, told the crowd. “I will lead you out of this mess [in Washington].”
Later, Trupiano appeared at Hamtramck’s 26th Annual Labor Day
Festival Parade, marching with Sen. Stabenow. On the other side, McCotter failed to attend either event, and according to his campaign website has no public appearances scheduled.
“Thaddeus is refusing all invitations for joint appearances or debates,” Trupiano said afterward. “He’s afraid to face me – and given what he and his party have done these past few years, he should be afraid.”
