Trust Them? Believe Them? Not I!
Knowing what we now know…
Would you let Ken Lay of Enron fame lead the effort to clean up corporate corruption?
Would you let 700 Club President Pat Robertson be the Secretary of State?
Would you let Michael Browne lead FEMA?
Would you re-hire George Tenent to lead the CIA?
How about allowing Rush Limbaugh lead the Nation Organization of Woman…of course not, right? Wouldn’t make sense under any circumstances, right?
Then why, I ask, would you let the Republican’s get away with this tough talk on reforming their leadership and think that they will actually do anything to clean up the scandals and the ongoing culture of
corruption?
If you take a look at who are seemingly the frontrunners for the leadership post, I’m asking myself what you should be asking yourself, can we expect Thaddeus McCotter, who is a proven follower in the House, to make a decision that represents responsible, proactive change in the U.S. Congress? Can we really expect McCotter to show leadership on new House leadership? Does McCotter think that changing “The Man” at the top of his Party in the House will change the corruption and lack of accountability that McCotter himself has voted to ignore and what he knowingly allowed when former House Leader Tom DeLay was king?
The irony, and I have been closely following the public information I can get to, is that suddenly after eleven years of Republican control of policy, the national wallet, and Republican “leadership” we find ourselves mired
in the largest sized government we
could have ever thought possible; the largest budget deficits ever conceived; and, sadly, the greatest potential for government corruption and scandal we have ever experienced as a country; today’s Republican expects you to believe that they can now reform the culture in Washington, DC and return us all to the safety and sanity of what, the Nixon years?
I don’t mean to sound cynical, but I’ve seen better teamwork by drunken Frat guys playing the game Operation! This is our country we are dealing with here, and in case you haven’t noticed, the Republican Congress hasn’t exactly instilled a great sense of National pride and purpose, now have they? Why should we trust that they suddenly have a plan for all of us? How is it that as we have seen the approval rating of Congress slip to almost historic lows that the Republican agenda for you and I is the agenda we want? I don’t believe you believe them any longer. I know I don’t believe them any longer, and I know we don’t have to tolerate this much longer, do we? No, we do not!
So as you watch and listen over the next few weeks to why one Republican has a better vision of leadership over the other, try to remember that leading by looking
back has never been a plan for success. Yes, we must always
remember our past, but as the Republicans have also taught us, not learning from it gets you the same result: lies, corruption and a decaying trust in the system of government we are supposed to lean on.
They have had their chance. Is it working for you? Your family? Your country? Answer that honestly and we can begin the process of rebuilding this country. Deny the truth and prepare for the result. It’s your decision.
I think it’s overdue for lobbying reform, and I know many Democrats that serve this great country that are honorable and worthy of leading this reform effort. If the Republicans really want change, they will ask Democrats to design it. Then they will install it.
